1. The Bible does not say anything about the age of the Earth except in II Peter 3:5 it declares the creation to be of old. This is similar to the fact that the Bible does not say the Earth is flat.
2. Overwhelming scientific evidence points to a very old Earth.
3. The attempt to date the Earth from biblical genealogies is not legitimate. The 14 generations given in Matthew from David back to Abraham differ by an additional name included in the same list in Luke. This is not an error or a conflict in scripture but instead it is God’s way of telling us not to use these lists to date anything.
4. No one can perfectly interpret all of scripture and there is no reason to omit without consideration the gap theory (this does not necessarily embrace evolution) or the fact that the Hebrew word for “day” can mean an age. It should be expected for true science to mirror the scriptures.
5. Tree rings alone prove that the Earth is over 10,000 years old and Ice cores go much older. These are dating methods that can’t be disputed. http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/icecores.html
6. Egypt was an organized country with pyramids long before the Young Earth view predicts the world wide flood to have occurred.
7. Dinosaurs or at least Saber Toothed Tigers etc. would need to be included on Noah’s Ark under a Young Earth view and this goes beyond all reason.
8. An underwater collapsed cavern known as the Blue Hole south of Belize contains huge formations (that could only have formed by evaporation in an above ground setting) would have taken hundreds of thousands of years or even millions of years to form and that would necessarily have happened before the Caribbean Sea was formed.
9. Huge crystals (bigger than telephone poles) formed in a cave in Mexico are estimated to have taken 500,000 years to form. http://www.crystalinks.com/mexicocrystals.html
10. Evidence that the Earth is young is weak and unconvincing. Maybe it would be more convincing if it were true.
